What Are Personal Care Services?
Personal care services provide support with everyday activities to help individuals live safely, comfortably, and independently in their own homes. These services are designed for older adults and people who may need assistance with daily living due to age, disability, illness, or mobility challenges.
Personal care focuses on assisting with essential daily tasks, often referred to as Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). These include bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, mobility assistance, and transferring safely from one place to another, such as moving from a bed to a chair.
Support can also extend to Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs), which are important household and lifestyle tasks that help maintain independence. These may include meal preparation, laundry, grocery shopping, light housekeeping, and general household assistance.
Receiving personal care services at home allows individuals to remain in a familiar and comfortable environment while receiving the support they need. In-home care can help improve quality of life, maintain independence, and reduce the need to move into residential aged care or assisted living facilities.
